A forest fire has caused the closure of Hwy 20 approximately 20 kms west of Alexis Creek. traffic is being re-routed through the Chilco-Newton FSR to Young Road.

Total burning ban in effect for coastal areas

Warm weather, a lack of precipitation and daily winds have created extreme fire hazard conditions on the central coast.Recent weather conditions have made the central coast the highest fire hazard region in the province due to the high fuel loads found in coastal forests.

Due to budget constraints and the lack of response to a recent call for proposals to operate the Thorsen Creek Waste and Recycling Centre, the Central Coast Regional District has announced changes to scheduled landfill opening days effective January 1, 2010.
