Wildfire Impacts Data Collection

The Central Coast Regional District is seeking individuals to do data collection and reporting. The work will assist the Wildfire Recovery Manager in assessing the impacts of the 2017 BC Wildfires on community members.  

This is a contract position starting as soon as possible and ending March 31, 2018. Successful applicants will report directly to the Wildfire Recovery Manager. This position is well suited to individuals who are self-motivated, well organized, and able to work sensitively and respectfully with the public.
The successful applicants will work under the direction of the Wildfire Recovery Manager to collect and record information concerning the 2017 wildfire impacts. Surveys will be conducted in-person and over the phone with community members within the CCRD. Our aim is to better understand how businesses, jobs, fishing, hunting, gathering, ceremony, schooling and/or training, wellness and medical, family commitments, and community events were impacted.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to collect and record information efficiently and accurately.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage time effectively.
  • Ability to use computers.
  • Data entry skills
  • High school diploma (some college/university an asset) or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (word, excel, etc.) an asset.

  • Survey members of the community, as directed by the Wildfire Recovery Manager.
  • Collect and record the survey responses.
  • Record and enter data accurately.
  • Understand the importance of confidentiality and protect personal information collected in confidence.
  • Share information sheet on available supports and resources for wildfire impact recovery (information sheet provided).
  • Submit all recorded and compiled survey feedback to the Wildfire Recovery Manager in a timely manner.

  • Successful applicants must have their own workspace, access to a computer, and a flexible schedule.
  • Posting closing date: February 6, 2018 at 4:00pm (PST).
  • Compensation: $20 per hour.
