Tweedsmuir Fires: VA1964 Dean River, VA1787 Ramsey Creek, R12315 Tesla Lake, R12068 Pandosy Bay: Size 263,925 ha

Crews continue to work in the Gatcho Lake area, the spot of concern there is now in patrol and monitor stage.  A guard continues to be constructed in the Upper Dean River to secure properties. Remainder of the properties impacted by these fires are being monitored and SPU units maintained.

After a couple of clear days the smoke has returned today.

After a couple of clear days, the smoke has returned. Some smoke cover is expected as the wind direction changes and also can occur from a temperature inversion.

It is important to remember that the return of this smoke doesn´t mean that fire activity has increased in this area. Smoke conditions can change quickly over short distances and can vary considerably hour-by-hour.

Community Meeting Set for Update on 2018 Wildfires and the Kimsquit-Dean River Channel Alert

Hear from Parks and Nuxalk Land Marine and Cultural Experts about the 2018 Wildfires

The Nuxalk/CCRD Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) team has arranged for BC Parks and Nuxalk experts to visit the Kimsquit-Dean River Channel currently under evacuation alert and bring back their observations on risks from the wildfires and stories from those still out there.  The community meeting has been rescheduled to hear about the visit.

Please bring your questions to the meeting this Sunday August 26th at the Nuxalk Administration Building Basement at 7 pm.

Please see the attached Information Bulletin announcing that campfires will be prohibited throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre´s jurisdiction as of NOON on Tuesday, July 31, 2018.

The Cariboo Fire Centre is composed of three Resource Districts: Cariboo-Chilcotin, 100 Mile House and Quesnel and this prohibition applies to all of these areas.

The River Forecast Centre has issued a High Streamflow Advisory for the Bella Coola River.

The River Forecast Centre has maintained a Flood Watch for the Dean River.

On Tuesday January 23rd 2018 coastal communities in British Columbia tested their Tsunami preparation initiatives in response to a Tsunami Warning originating from a 7.9 magnitude earthquake in Alaska (originally reported as magnitude 8.2).
